Dear Ms. Pendarvis-Tremayne,

I'm writing to you as part of my application for the Young Protectors' League summer programme; we are contacting adult witches and wizards who are working in the careers that we might like to have in the future.

I've thought for a while now that I would like to become some sort of creative artist when I leave school, but until recently, I haven't been certain what art form I most wanted to focus on. Now, though, I'm pretty certain that I want to write. I want to someday be able to write stories and poems that move people, that make them laugh or cry or think.

And that is why I wrote to you, because ever since one of my Housemates lent me her copy of Wizardry of Words and I read your poem about the restoration of Tintagel, I haven't been able to get it out of my mind. I saw Tintagel on a YPL trip two summers ago, and I've never forgotten it. Your poem brought that feeling back exactly.

I also really enjoyed the accompanying interview with you. It was really wizard to learn that you were in my House, Hufflepuff, when you were at school, and I loved hearing about your loyalty to the Cornish landscape and what the restoration means to you as a Cornish witch.

I haven't any dramatic heritage of my own--the Bones' have pretty much always been Londoners--but I've always loved old wizarding folklore, stories, and songs, particularly from the countryside.

The YPl summer programme will be taking place in the countryside this year--we will be improving our defence, duelling, field herbology, and other skills. As a future writer, I believe that it is important to have a wide variety of life experiences and skills to write about, and also recent events have made me especially aware of how important it is to never, ever be helpless or defenceless.

Thank you for your time and for reading my letter.

Sincerely,

Susan E. Bones
